Woodcut prints
The prints start by drawing in pencil or ink directly onto the wood block to give an immediacy to the image.
The image is slowly formed by cutting and carving into the wood. Making decisions about the marks to make, what to leave to maintain the sense and create the atmosphere of the subject.
Some prints are single pressings in one colour, others are single pressings but with two or more colours rolled onto the plate at the same time.
Some prints are offset double pressings, when a base colour is printed first then overlaid by a second darker colour, the first colour purposely showing at the edges of the lines.
